We are all in need of home improvement

In the spring it is time to rake the lawn, pant the flowers, fix up the house, in the summer it is time to mow the lawn, trim the hedges ... Being a single parent for many years I am no stranger to a hammer, nails, lawnmower, shovel and rake.

 To me a home is not a physical structure but the bond that exists between the people who live there. I have been in many homes large and small the most beautiful ones though were the homes filled with love.

We are called temples of God, our souls live in our bodies, our “first home” is our body itself, and they are the gift of life from God. It is these first homes of ours that are indicators of how we will live in a man-made dwelling. If we love, our “personal” dwelling shines and is inviting to others, even if it is not beautiful to the eye, the heart will feel what the eye misses or cannot see at all. The eye can be deceived by phony facade, just look at movie set to see this.

The house that you physically live in is not you be it big or small. It is only a place to dwell in while you are here on earth and as such it can change in an instant in accordance with God’s will. A human dwelling doesn’t measure your inherent worth or value. It is your ability to create a home where you are that reflects who you are and the person that stands true, without any phony fronts.

Even if you should lose your house for whatever reason, you still have a “home” the one given you by God, you have life and you are a Temple of God. In this fact is your dignity and worth not a structure of wood or brick.

To the extend that you are sprucing up your house for spring, summer, fall or winter, do so with the Temple God has given you, plant flowers and seeds in your backyard, and do so in your soul, plants seeds of love, hope and charity by your faith in God they will grow. Yes take care of your first house, the Temple that is you this is the house that all will see every moment of your life.
