Off shore accounts and the mansions they can buy

This might be a touchy subject to be writing about… The category 5 Hurricane that recently hit the Bahamas, was tragic indeed and the loss of life proved to be even more devastating … but the one thing the news coverage on this story never mentions is … the island that was hit is a “safe space for the greedy”… as in many have off shore bank accounts there that are not subjected to taxes and many have large mansion there as well.

I have seen on news coverage it is the poor or those who work in the grand hotels on the island or for the very rich on the island that are being filmed for news stories, and yes the poor suffered a great deal, they always do and they are always used as "props", sad to say ...

The ones who avoided taxes, by sheltering their wealth on these islands should be required to help in the reconstruction effort (but they will not) they should be the ones to help the poor, maintain the common good in their “native” country from which their citizenship is from ... but they will not ... this discussion and part of the story is not even being addressed in the media ... they are calling on other nations and people to come in and rebuild ... what about calling upon those who have billions of dollars in their off shore accounts on those islands ..

What would really be a tragic if such people or corporations would now receive “public funds” to rebuild their mansions on the island … using public funding that were gotten via taxes … what sad irony … those who moved to the Bahamas to avoid taxes, would now be rebuilding their empires, with the taxes of common folks too poor to live such a rich lifestyle … or through donations

It reminds me of the recent study done on “small business loans” or grants given to “small businesses”, by our government to do a startup business … a recent forensic accounting of such loans and grants revealed the majority of them are being given to large corporations already in business …

The poor are usually ripped into for their “real” need, for public assistance, yet the press and others never report on where the real greed and abuse of funds are … “in corporate greed”, in off shore accounts, in the large tax breaks the extremely wealthy get, the kicks backs politicians get from lobbyist’s to pass bills that favor big corporate entities, while hurting the poor …

So I found the article, about Sean Connery riding out the storm in his mansion  very disturbing and he was the only one mentioned, no other coverage of the wealthy mansions on the island (no they only show the poor workers homes on the island)

Sean Connery has revealed he was “lucky” to survive after his Bahamas mansion escaped the worst of Hurricane Dorian ... was the article

And lest we forget 2 years ago the “Paradise Papers” revealed
How the rich and powerful hide their money and avoid taxes in off shore accounts … over 13.4 million separate accounts from people around the world ... the Bahamas play heavily into these accounts

The records show how politics and big business are entangled with offshore interests … even Queen Elizabeth’s  name was on the list of how she hides her own personal wealth … of course there is nothing illegal about this … yet how immoral IT IS …

The trove of 13.4 million records exposes ties between Russia, the secret dealings of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s chief fundraiser and the offshore interests of the queen of England and more than 120 politicians around the world.

The leaked documents show how deeply the offshore financial system is entangled with the overlapping worlds of political players, private wealth and corporate giants, including Apple, Nike, Uber and other global companies that avoid taxes through increasingly imaginative bookkeeping maneuvers.

And yes even the Catholic Church is involved ... The files contain information on the affairs of AIB’s offshore operation, some of Ireland’s wealthiest businessmen and most prominent businesses, celebrities from the arts world, and even an Irish priest who played a role in offshore holding companies linked to valuable assets.

I just want to add ... I have been in major floods, a couple of times and I had 3 plus feet of water in my house, lots of property damage and loss of year books, photographs (the things you cannot replace) two cars lost in floods... FEMA helped me as did the American Red Cross at the time ... so I am not insensitive to those caught up in hurricanes and floods I have been there I know the power of water and strong winds and major property loss ...
