Performance art
Shakespeare wrote, life is but a stage and we
are all performers on it … this is true there is drama all around us within our
homes and what we encounter in the outside world … Just watch any politician
they are the best actors with their hysteria and drama as they try to get their
personal agenda across and approved by the public to secure votes for
themselves. They play act, for it is not what they are in reality, it is what
they want you to believe … so their “skits” in life are not their truth but
their deceptions …
But there are those in life whose “performance
art” was their truth and their “hook” to make you look their way and once they
got your attention, they could tell
their story (or truth) … I think of Don Bosco a pious man who wanted to get the
attention of the young boys he was trying to teach about God … so what did he
do … at times he would dress up like a clown, do magic tricks and walk on high wire to capture
their attention and once done he could speak to his young audience, about the glories of God.
In the Catholic Church there is a lot of
“performance art" going on, fancy and expensive vestments and at times gaudy
churches to capture the attention of the laity to come on it … put your money
into our collection basket, and watch us perform for you… who seriously thinks
that Jesus Christ dressed or acted in that way while on earth .. The simple
God/man with one tunic and no place to live… How the church depicts Christ now
is almost obscene… as in the hierarchy's portrayal of Jesus Christ, one would think he was a money grubbing,
high fashion (as in fancy vestments) and lived in a palace while on earth, as in the grand rectories attached to grand Cathedrals … or my personal favorite (not) is the Cardinal of Washington DC who lives on Embassy row in D.C. a place of great wealth and power... well that fits as to who the hierarchy really is power hungry with extreme wealth. (of course not earned wealth but donated wealth by the laity)
Such is bizarre theater, the hierarchy of the
church is so far removed from the truth,
it in another realm of existence, a realm called “earthy goods” of which
the corporation (hierarchy of the church) seeks to grow … not the Kingdom of
God, but the kingdom and power of man upon earth …
The hierarchy points to itself, as being the
means of salvation, the “true performance artist for Christ” points to Jesus Christ…
not a corporation of greed and corruption upon earth …
Don Bosco was the perfect performance artist for Jesus Christ …
and Don Bosco, like myself in my performance art, with blogs, memes and videos, always in the end pointed to the True
Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist … and like Don Bosco if I have to be
a clown to do so…. bring on the makeup!
