The Thorn Birds

Who would have thought that one day the novel “the Thorn Birds”, would actually be a “normal love story”, within the priesthood … good gravy … how twisted human and sexual relationships are within the hierarchy and clergy….. Yet decades ago if you read the Thorn Birds and you were in the laity, you were looked upon as being a pervert, a candidate for purgatory.   All while the hierarchy and many clergy were hooking up with their gay lovers or worse attacking and raping seminarians and children.

Dear God, have mercy on us and send us a stadium full of “Thorn Bird priests” … and bring back the mandate of Jesus on St. Peter (Jesus picked a married man to head his church, as were most of his apostles)

And to my dismay, I learned from people who were present to hear this comment, from my Bishop’s mouth ....
I was told …. My Bishop stated the “church went too far” in laicizing the former Cardinal McCarrick … because as my Bishop stated, “McCarrick was a nice guy”… OK … wow … I think they said that about Ted Bundy as well … nice guy, even well-mannered and good looking… and it is said the “wolves will be cloaked in light”…
… My dear Bishop who lives and breathes by the “standard of obedience” to him, by his priests, and hey throw in “alleged mystics as well” … Bishop, you as well is called, “to Obedience” … to those higher than you in the Church, and those who made the call to laicize McCarrick … so wow Bishop to make a statement such as the “hierarchy made a bad call, in laicizing McCarrick”???  … Does that include you, Bishop as well in “making bad calls”???
Be that as it may…  Such words, which can be over heard or even taped criticizing a “higher up in the hierarchy of the church, than you Bishop” is not very obedient and to defend a pervert (because he was a nice guy to you, kind of creepy) … yet on an even creepier level, the Bishop might be right … McCarrick was and is not the creepiest one to wear a Roman collar, yet the hierarchy called for McCarrick’ s head … while many corrupt or perverts still have their roman collars in place …
Yet we “mystics” tend to think about things a lot and pray about them even more … Been thinking about the Holy Spirit and “intent” and the nature of sin … as it is not a sin, unless you are aware it is or you think it is … so in defending McCarrick, does my Bishop think what McCarrick did was not a sin??? Not to mention a felony!  … Hmmm … now I think even further … can a Cardinal or a Bishop who has a total disregard for their vows of celibacy and societal law … be a conduit for grace and the “Holy Spirit” and pass down the gift of the priesthood, or Bishop Status …?
Yes there is a chain of command, one passed down from St. Peter, but can it be broken by sin against a vow, a sin against the Holy Spirit … unfaithfulness??? are those breaks by sin in the hierarchy … “sins against the Holy Spirit” … why the hierarchy tells the laity it can be broken “In us” hence we need them for confession (and frequently) but I recently learned, from a couple of priests themselves (who wish to remain nameless) … that a priest need not go to “confession” more than once a year, if that … but hey if you insist, two times a year but no more!  And I also learned that “come back Mondays to confession” during lent was a McCarrick project that he started … wow talk about a tragic oxymoron… or a do as I preach,  not as I do moment for McCarrick and the church …
Troubling, I was told … my Bishop once state, privately … That he did not like Pope Frances… thought Pope Frances to be too liberal and transparent … and that maybe it would be a good idea one day, to just follow what the US Catholic Bishops dictate and not the Vatican … hmmm don’t know … but such can be heard in the wind … now what would that be called……  Why it would be called a “schism”… and where did I hear that before … well that would be in the message of Fatima and Garabandal … and that would be the ultimate lack of obedience” …. As in soooooooooooo “not obedient”, moment in Church history  …
So yes give me the good old days of “The Thorn Bird Novel” … to these crazy and chaotic and evil times within the church’s hierarchy …
