The Spitch and her friends who are men
For most of
my life, my closest friends have been men… maybe due to the fact I was the only
girl in my family and I grew up around my brothers’ friends so I am comfortable
hanging out with the guys. I do have a few close friends who are women but
mostly they are men…
In order to
survive as a child growing up around boys I had to learn to develop a fast
twit, be tough and have a sense of humor. Anyway the boys got to do way cooler
things growing up and they would also do stupid things that would make me
laugh…
And they were weirder than the little girls, the boys would think of crazy
shit to do and then challenged each other to do it … It was like being in clown
college at times most amusing.
I think back
on those young boys that I grew up with and they are successful people with
families and many retired now … I do not see these men often anymore but when I
do they call me “Spitch” the nickname they gave me as a kid (I was the “spoiled”
little “bitch”, who would follow them around hence the singlet “Spitch”) and their
friend’s little sister …
I was not
above blackmail either … if they did not let me play with them I would
threatened with an “I am going to tell my dad on you”… this was a really big
threat for my brother, he did not want to get in trouble with dad… so he would
let me hang out with him and his friends …
When my spiritual
journey began, I soon found out that you “bring your native personality” into it
… you do not turn into a magical being or stop relating to others with the same
personality you have and even to God.
I once spoke
to a spiritual director about this and he said “yes it is true your approach to
God is usually on the level of your own personal experiences as to how you
related to those around you and God also approaches you within that personality/
context”…
just look at the different cultures and languages the Virgin Mary as appeared
to visionaries with … she always speaks
that person/ visionaries native language
and even for the most part looks like the native culture of that person… this
is very remarkable for God truly stoops to meet us on our level.
So many
times I think of “Jesus” as the big brother I had growing up and his apostles
like the guys I hung out with… and there have been times I have said in prayer
to Jesus… “I am going to tell dad on you” and I also have a close personal spiritual
tie to St. Peter and St. Andrew as well as St. Matthew … it is just "me" to think and act
that way … so I guess that means on some “cosmic level” I am a “cosmic size Spitch”
to Jesus and the apostles… They have to let me hang out with them or I will “tell
Abba on them”…
One such friend is Dean (a happily married man) seen above with me hanging out on a Harley. I have know Dean for many years ... great guy and a lovely wife |
